OLPS Grad Ball 2015

It’s prom season again! I was surprised to get bookings for proms/grad balls this year despite the K-12 program. Apparently, schools still organize evening events for their students – a good thing for us makeup artists. But for this post, I’m going to talk about the clients I had for proms/grad balls last year – particularly from OLPS, Antipolo.

First on the list is Marjorie. I’ve worked with her several times before. She was one of the first people I included in my Antipolo makeup artist portfolio, so I’m quite familiar with her face. She noted that she wanted gold eyeshadow and dramatic lips. Here’s the look I created for her:

When I was creating her look for her grad ball, I made a mental note that I would include a photo of her hairstyle. It was so difficult to do! There’s a French twist in the middle and a bunch of hair roses at the sides. This hairstyle was inspired by Jennifer Lawrence in American Hustle (my sister and I were so into J-Law during that time):

This next look was one of my favourite ones to do because my client was willing to add drama to her look. Bianca wanted smokey eyes and red lips. Her super straight hair went perfectly with the entire look. So fierce and sexy!

When I saw Jamaine’s face, I knew that her gentle features would go well with bridal, spring makeup. I used some subtle earth tones for her eyeshadow and a pinkish nude hue for her lips.

For Jayneille, I had more freedom to use more hues since her gown was colourful. I used brown, purple and nude for her eyeshadow and pink for her lips:

olps grad ball, prom makeup, prom hairstyle, messy updo, tousled updo, tousled hairstyle, jennifer lawrence hair, jennifer lawrence american hustle, graduation ball makeup, hairstyle for prom, prom hair and makeup, makeup artist antipolo, hair and makeup antipolo

Last but definitely not the least on my list is Roselle. Like Marjorie, I’ve worked with Roselle several times prior to this. I can still remember how stunning she was when she joined her school’s Bb. Kalikasan pagent, wearing a gown made from recycled materials. By the way, she won that competition. Here’s the look I created for her for her grad ball:

olps grad ball, prom makeup, prom hairstyle, messy updo, tousled updo, tousled hairstyle, jennifer lawrence hair, jennifer lawrence american hustle, graduation ball makeup, hairstyle for prom, prom hair and makeup, makeup artist antipolo, hair and makeup antipolo

Because a lot of teenage girls love the messy updo, I’m also including Roselle’s hairstyle to this post:

So if you want to look as fab as these girls on your prom or evening ball, book Makeup by Noemi now!

Arian & Lovely Graduation Makeup

Ever since she was a just wee baby, I’ve always looked after my cousin Arian, and she swiftly grew into a lady right before my eyes. She’s the youngest girl in our clan and that was why everyone was so happy when she graduated as valedictorian of her class. When her graduation came, I instinctively did her hair and makeup. It was my honor and pleasure to have been part of one of the greatest milestones of her life. Along Arian, I also did her best friend’s hair and makeup. Lovely, by the way, also graduated with honors.

Since Arian brought her toga and cap with her, my sister decided to take their graduation pictures as well:

I also went to their graduation event to watch my cousin deliver her valedictory speech. It was heartfelt and I think I shed a tear! The event was held at Gloria’s Bahay Handaan—an open gathering hall with ample ventilation. It was a good thing that the weather was fair during that time so Arian and Lovely weren’t sweating throughout the program. I grabbed the photos that they took during and after the event:

Arian after the event. My proud uncle had a tarpaulin mounted for my cousin!

Lovely looked Jessy Mendiola-ish in that red dress! This was taken after the event.

Graduation Makeup – Jem & Nicole

I wasn’t able to post blog entries regarding my clients last graduation season. I’ve been very busy these past months, and I kept forgetting about my blog! Anyway, I still believe in the saying, “better late than never!” So now I’ll start posting about the clients I worked with last graduation season.

Nowadays, most customers who book me for services find me through the Internet—either through Facebook or Google search. If I remember it correctly, Jem was one of them. Jem has a face shaped like Betty Boop’s so I decided to put her hair in loose, elegant curls. For the makeup, we went with a graduation makeup that will make her look sweet—something appropriate for her age.

In the Philippines, graduation season starts at the beginning of summer when the weather is humid. I’ve met a number of foreigners and balikbayans who say that the apart from the humid weather in the country, there’s also water in the atmosphere. I couldn’t agree more. That is why I always ask my clients if the event will be held in an air conditioned room. Their hair will be affected by humidity and water and asking for curls that are let down is pointless. Even with ample products like anti-humidity mousse and hairspray, their curls won’t hold up.

The case is a bit different for Nicole. She said her even though her graduation will take place in an open area, the event will start in the evening. So, we decided to put her hair half up and half down. Since she is also graduating from high school, I gave her a look that is appropriate for her age.

Thicker eyebrows make one look younger. That’s why Cara Delevigne can pass as a high school girl!

Photos were taken by my sister, Eunice. By the way, the only manipulation that she does on the photos that I post entails color correction, cropping, and stitching. She does not erase blemishes and such. That is why if you look closely at the photos, you will still see bumps (for clients with acne).

Prom Makeup for Jemina Nikka

During prom and graduation season this year, I got booked mostly for grad makeup. I only did hair and makeup for few clients for prom/grad ball. Nonetheless, I enjoyed providing service for all of them. Since my clients were teenagers (and were willing to discover new things about themselves), they were more adventurous. What I liked about them is that they mostly trust the opinions of professionals–what type of makeup and hairstyle suits their features. One of the customers who booked me for prom, was Jemina Nikka, a student of St. Clare Science High School, Antipolo. When I met her, my first impression of her was that she was very reserved. But the interesting thing about reserved people is that they keep a hidden gem inside them, waiting to shine.

Christmas Party & Other December Events

My unpublished posts have been piling up to the point that I have to create one entry for several makeup clients. Last December, 2014, I had clients for Christmas parties, birthdays, and weddings. Filipino employees take office Christmas parties seriously. Most companies here require the office departments to prepare a performance for the party and they give cash prizes to the outstanding singers/dancers. I enjoy servicing these clients because they usually have an appointed theme to follow–Great Gatsby, Oscars, MTV Movie Awards, and the like. Meanwhile, my cousin Ate Sherine asked me to do her makeup for her Shiny, Shimmering themed Christmas party. Here are her photos:

I focused on the crease of her eyelids and added a metallic eyeshadow on the mid part.

Ate Jazzie, another cousin, asked me to do her makeup for a wedding she’d attend at Tagaytay. I didn’t fix her hair for this one because she was busy throughout the day. She just made a quick stop at a salon to have her hair blow dried and curled. Since the event was in the early afternoon, I just gave her a fresh, spring look:

Dra. Claire Lopez wanted to celebrate her son’s birthday with a bang so she asked me to do her makeup for that day. Her little son’s party was superhero themed and she’d go dressed as Super Girl for the event. Gave her a fresh look for the event and side-swept curls.

OLPS Grad Ball 2014

I know a couple of OLPS students through my cousin, Arian. Some of them I already did makeup for portraits, and when I posted their photos on Facebook, it attracted clients from their school. I don’t know if they organize a prom every year, but I do know that they hold grad balls for senior students. Last March, 2014, I was hired by Yvette Cruz and Brielle Corrales to create an Oscars look for them. They both wanted side-swept curls. Here are their photos:

My photographer sister had a gig later that day so she wasn’t able to take photos of Yvette and Brielle with makeup. So, the following photos are from their cell phones.

Prom Makeup

I haven’t updated this site for a looooong time! You can tell because my post is about proms which usually take place during February. I find updating my Facebook page, Makeup by Noemi, more convenient. However, upon discovering that I still attract followers (chos!)  through this site, I decided to maintain it. This will be a long post, so brace yourself!

It’s always an advantage to have a teenage cousin. A huge bulk of my Facebook followers came from Arian’s network of friends. During the last prom season, most of my clients are her classmates or friends of her friends. Here’s my first client for the season, Stef (Before Shot):

I’ve worked with Stef before for a portrait, and I’ve always loved her face because her eyes and face shape resemble Emma Roberts’. Here’s what I did for her look:

Stef wanted to have an updo despite her short hair. I did my best to create a look for her hair that would not fall off for the whole duration of the event.

Moving forward, after a week or so, I did makeup for Arian and her friends. My cousin Arian wanted to have a regal look, something with an Audrey Hepburn in Roman Holiday vibe. Here’s what I did for her (we were in a hurry so my sister wasn’t able to take her photo without makeup):

My next prom client was Lovely. She had strong facial features so I decided to give her a brown smokey eyeshadow + dark red lips.

Bless Mae, on the other hand, wanted to have a K-Pop vibe for her look. So, I used thick false eyelashes, glittery, and smokey eyeshadow.
